GDS International: Evolution, gradual and consistent
GDS International has come a long way off from where it had started, about two decades ago.
The genesis of GDS can be traced back to October 1993, when Spencer Green, an alumnus of Kings College, London and a former member of The Rolling Stones’ road crew and also a former Sales Manager at Sterling Publications, launched the company as a publishing firm. The company specialised in industrial, government-led publications for the burgeoning Chinese market. The company launched over forty business-to-business titles, was name-checked alongside Tony Blair on China’s national news as ‘best for Chinese business’. The company also made a move into India and was deemed to be ‘of national importance’ by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.
In 1998 it became GDS International, a privately owned business-to-business events and media. The company launched its first conference, Enterprise China. In the next couple of years, the hugely successful Enterprise series of conferences was rolled out across China and Latin America. In 2000, the company launched its first Senior Executive Summit under the ‘Next Generation’ banner. This became the catalyst for ten years of rapid growth. Yes, the company grew 40% in 2010; the recorded revenue in 2010 for the company from its offices in Bristol and Cardiff (UK), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), New York (U.S.A.) and Sydney (Australia) was £40 million. In 2011, the company will be holding over 70 Summits for C-level Executives from a wide range of industries and across the globe. The company organises all kinds of events- Financial, Healthcare, IT Service Management, Telecoms (fixed and mobile) and Oil & Gas Summit for the Asia Pacific, Africa, China, Europe, North America and Russia. GDS International also combines the editorial impact of its printed publications with the real-time benefits of the Internet to produce superb online b2b magazines for selected industries.
